We provide suggested mattresses sizes for each quilt in our collection. Given their vintage handmade nature, the sizing won’t always align perfectly with modern bedding but we do our best to share which size mattress (or two) it would fit best. Keep in mind that regardless of the exact dimensions, our quilts look gorgeous styled as a layered accent piece, draped at the foot of the bed, or hung on the wall as art. Each quilt is labeled by the general weight (light, medium or heavy) as well as the texture (very soft, soft, or crisp). Imagine lying under a quilt. How heavy or light it feels is the weight. Now imagine running your hands over the piece. The texture of the piece is how it feels when you touch it. Most of our quilts are soft while others are very soft from years of wear. However, vintage pieces that have been well preserved will have more structure or crispness to them. We do our best to give you a sense of how the quilts will feel using these descriptors.

All of our quilts are handmade pieces sourced from individuals in eastern Kentucky - primarily Whitesburg in Letcher County - and the surrounding Appalachian region. This region includes southwest Virginia and eastern Tennessee, but can stretch up through Pennsylvania and the lower Midwest and down to North Carolina and Georgia.

Appalachian Culture Club is a curated collection of vintage handmade quilts sourced by its founder, Anna Richardson White, over the past several decades. Each a unique, handcrafted treasure from eastern Kentucky - where Anna was born and raised - or the surrounding Appalachian region. Anna’s mother Josephine bought and sold quilts and folk art for 48 years at her store called The Cozy Corner on Main Street in Whitesburg, Kentucky. Anna would accompany her mom on buying trips up in the hills and hollers of the region looking for quilted gems and helping support mostly women quilters for decades. Anna left eastern Kentucky at 15 for boarding school in New England and was given her very first quilt to take on her journey. Fast forward 30 years, Anna created Appalachian Culture Club in part to share her mountain heritage and the beauty and function of an organic hand stitched heirloom with people outside the region. She sources quilts that are as beautiful hanging on a wall as tucked into a bed. Her mission is for every home to have a quilt and she’s eager to help you find the perfect one for yours.
